Blondie drummer Clem Burke has confirmed that the band is heading to Glastonbury 2023.

Speaking to Foxy Radio, he revealed that after their gig in Crystal Palace Park with Iggy Pop on July 1, the band are going to be playing other festivals including the famous event as part of their Lust For Life UK and Ireland tour.

Clem said: ‘We’re also doing Isle of Wight Festival and some other festivals… I guess the full list of artists to be playing Glastonbury hasn’t really been announced yet… but we are going to be playing Glastonbury, so maybe you’ve got an exclusive there.’

It comes after it was announced that Sir Elton John will be bringing the event to a close, headlining the Pyramid Stage on Sunday night.

The organisers of the event, which runs from June 21 to 25 this year, have yet to announce any other acts.

Speculation is continuing to mount over the other 2023 acts, as excited fans anticipate the iconic event.

Although it has not been officially confirmed, Guns N’ Roses also let slip a hint they could be taking to the stage for the festival.

The band features singer Axl Rose, lead guitarist Slash, guitarist Richard Fortus, drummer Frank Ferrer, keyboardists Dizzy Reed and Melissa Reese and bassist Duff McKagan.

Speaking on Sirius XM radio in January, Duff said: ‘Maybe some of those Iggy shows we’re going to do.

‘And Glastonbury’s going to be iconic for us. We’re going to be announcing some shows soon, guys.’

Meanwhile, Blondie, which were founded by Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein, last performed at Glastonbury in 2014 on the Other Stage and belted out their hits on the Pyramid Stage in 1999.

Last year, they kicked off their first UK tour in five years in Glasgow.

Debbie told the crowd at the 14,000-capacity arena: ‘This is a long time coming for me. It’s really an honour to be back here.’

Clem said: ‘I guess the full list of artists to be playing Glastonbury hasn’t really been announced yet… but we are going to be playing Glastonbury!’

The show had been postponed due to Covid however the disappointment of that delay was well and truly cushioned by the bands incredible display on the night.

Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway said Debbie looked ‘amazing’, while co-host Richard Arnold added: ‘She has ripened beautifully’.

The performance comes after the former wild child rocker revealed her hell-raising days are behind her – as she had taken up knitting.

The former heroin addict, has previously spoken about how she ‘tried everything’ during the band’s heyday.

In an interview for The Big Issue with Johnny Marr, the former guitarist with The Smiths, the singer said: ‘I’m curious about how I will respond to being back out on the road, since I haven’t done it for a couple of years.

‘I’ve had to change my behaviour over the years, and behaviour is very hard to change.

‘On tour these days I do what the women on the front during the French Revolution would do. I sit there knitting and rocking back and forth.

‘That’s what I do. I will be bringing my knitting needles with me.’
