Album review – Blondie: Panic of girls (EMI)

YOU have to hand it to Blondie.

They’ve never become a covers band of themselves and have always pushed forward with new ground-breaking material.

Which is why this newie, 30-odd years after their masterpiece Parallel Lines, still has much to recommend it.

A cover of the reggae classic Girlie Girlie might be reminiscent of earlier singles such as Tide Is High and Denis but there is proper guitarry grinding and high-energy rock, as on the single Mother and the brilliant What I Heard.

Ultimately it’s still Blondie, featuring Debbie Harry and there’s no higher accolade.

Verdict: 4/5
