Debbie Harry is set to be the next musical icon to get the biopic treatment when she revealed which actress she would want to play her in a new interview.
The Blondie singer revealed that she ‘would be in heaven’ if a famous blond actress played her in an upcoming film.
‘If it were somebody like Florence Pugh, I would be in heaven,’ Harry — who still looks shockingly youthful at 80 — said while speaking with The Sunday Times. ‘I just think she’s a great actor and she could do anything.’
The interview included the revelation that a Blondie biopic may finally be on the way, as Aftersun director Charlotte Wells is reportedly helming the project.
Harry also shared that she and her Blondie bandmate Chris Stein are working on a documentary about the group.
Although Pugh has devoted much of her time in recent years to Marvel films — including Black Widow (2021), the Disney+ series Hawkeye (2021), this year’s Thunderbolts film and next year’s Avengers: Doomsday — she has also appeared in a number of critically acclaimed films in the past decade that may have prepared her to play the punk superstar.

She showed a proficiency with historical roles in 2023’s Oscar-winner Oppenheimer, as well as classic literature adaptations with Greta Gerwig’s acclaimed version of Little Women (2019).
That year, Pugh starred in another biopic, the wrestling film Fighting With My Family.
The English actress has also received strong reviews for her chilly title role in 2016’s Lady Macbeth, as well as the epic horror film Midsommar (2019).
While her 2022 psychological thriller Don’t Worry Darling was lambasted by viewers and critics, Pugh’s performance was mostly praised, and she’s set to return to another popular series when she appears in Dune: Part Three next year.
The actress have even shown a talent for singing when in 2020’s A Good Person — directed by her ex-boyfriend Zach Braff — in which she wrote and performed multiple songs.
Pugh and Harry could be a match made in heaven, as the actress has already expressed interest in playing the singer.
According to Entertainment Weekly, when Pugh was asked at the 2020 Santa Barbara International Film Festival what famous person she would want to play, she replied, ‘Blondie, just because she’s so cool.’
Later that year, in a joint interview with Scarlett Johansson for Marie Claire, Pugh said her priority in choosing roles was to ‘find women who are totally fascinating and totally powerful in their own way.’

‘I really want to recognize the women I play, whether it’s that I recognize my mom in her, or my gran in her, or my sister in her. I want to play complex and confusing characters,’ she said.
Although news of Charlotte Wells reported Blondie biopic suggests that Harry is intent on getting the film made, it’s not that first time that a potential film about her life has been considered.
Back in 2007, Kirsten Dunst revealed that she and Harry had met to discuss having her portray the performer.
‘I met with Debbie in Miami, and we both hit it off. We’re both Jersey girls, and she wants me to play her. It’s like the most amazing thing! I will work so hard, because she is the coolest woman of all time!’ she said, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
